My name is David Weiser and I’m a T-2 (ASIA A) paraplegic as a result of a motorcycle accident that occurred on 18
Feb 2004. At that time I was on top of the world! I had a great career, a beautiful, healthy family and my health.
The accident caused a complete sever from T-2 through T-6, crushing those vertebrae as well. I suffered a broken clavicle,
numerous broken ribs and two broken scapulas. I spent the better part of the following two months in bed trying to recover
both physically and mentally. After a month at an acute care hospital I was transferred to Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in
Phila. where I learned to perform basic tasks again.
After about a year off of work I returned to my prior position as a Police Detective. Since then I have learned to perform
CPR and qualify with my firearm as a paraplegic.
I’ve learned that an injury such as mine isn’t "beatable." Believe me I would beat it if it was possible. The
injury is manageable though. Life with a spinal cord injury is difficult, but not impossible. Remember that a wheelchair doesn’t
define who you are, it simply changes your lifestyle.
